1. Tech Support Impersonation Scam
This scam typically starts with an unsolicited email or call claiming to be from a well-known company such as Microsoft. The fraudster convinces the recipient to allow remote access to their computer, then poses as a bank employee and fabricates false threats (such as fraudulent charges or identity theft). Victims are coerced into transferring funds or purchasing gift cards to “secure” their accounts, often under high pressure and with emotionally charged language.
2. Cryptocurrency Investment Scam
In this scenario, individuals posing as cryptocurrency “mentors” or experts build trust by offering to help open investment accounts in Bitcoin or other digital assets. The victims are instructed to withdraw funds and are often advised to keep their actions private from their financial advisors or family. What appears to be a legitimate investment account is ultimately a façade and the funds are stolen.
These scams are alarming in both their sophistication and their ability to exploit trust.

- Pause before acting. Be skeptical of unexpected requests for money, account access, or secrecy.
- Verify identities independently. Use official contact numbers or websites; never rely on contact information provided in suspicious emails or calls.
- Communicate openly. Always consult your financial advisor before making significant financial moves or transfers.
- Strengthen digital safeguards. Enable two-factor authentication and voice ID with your custodians, and maintain updated security software.
