Before spreadsheets and financial planning, Jimmy Fernandez, FPQP®, was navigating a dance floor as a salsa instructor and welcoming guests as a doorman at the iconic Delano Hotel in South Beach. From greeting celebrities to working high-profile events like Art Basel, the Winter Music Conference, and exclusive performances, his college years were a blend of late nights, vibrant energy, and focused economic studies. Beneath the glitz and graphs, however, one question lingers: where did his passion for finance truly begin?
That answer emerged during the 2008 economic recession, a time when Jimmy found himself overwhelmed with questions. Dissatisfied with the surface-level approach to economics and financial literacy in school, he took learning into his own hands. Through deep dives into independent research, Jimmy realized that economics and finance were more than an interest – they could be a meaningful career path. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in finance from Florida International University.
Although his early roles were worlds apart from finance, Jimmy’s adaptability and service-driven mindset continue to guide him today. At Tobias Financial Advisors, he values the firm’s strong commitment to fiduciary standards and appreciates the diverse perspectives and expertise of the advisors he works alongside. He credits that collaborative environment as a key driver of his professional growth.
